Forget to Lose Weight

You've had a long day, the stress is building and going out to dinner seems like the perfect plan.

You turn to the healthy fare, but you think about everything going on and decide it would feel really good to have something you want instead of something you are supposed to eat. You flip through the other pages of the menu and make a decision.

Then you spot the desert menu. You go for it because you have already screwed up today, what is a little more going to hurt.

You'll start fresh on Monday when things get back to normal.

Does this sound familiar? We all have weak moments.

If you choose to give into the stress and have something that isn't on your meal plan, however, you shouldn't get sucked into the all of nothing thinking.

Forgive yourself for having a weak moment or a bad day.

Don't further punish yourself with extra workouts or try shaving off extra calories over the next few days and don't let it spiral into a few days, week or months off-track.

Stay in the moment.
Forgive yourself.
Forget about it.
Get right back on track with healthy eating and exercise.
Dwelling on the fact that you screwed up and ate something your shouldn't have will not make it better.

It will only cause more stress, which often leads to binge eating. Just because you had pizza and breadsticks for dinner doesn't mean you have to tack on a gooey desert. Savor each bite of the food you are trying to limit and make them count.

Then regain control and get right back on your meal plan.

Don't wait until tomorrow or Monday to start fresh. How many weekends do we have to wait to start over? If you are scheduled to workout, get it done. If you have already gone over your daily calorie range and haven't eaten dinner yet, don't skip it. Eat dinner as you normally would and pretend that the overeating did not happen.
